Iran

Iran

Iran developed its own pop music by the 1950s,when Vigen introduced the guitar to traditional Iranian music. While mixing indigenous instruments with the electric guitar he became the most popular pop singer of the the time. In 1970’s, Vigen’s student, Googoosh, became popular. Following the Iranian Revolution in 1979, pop music’s future seemed dark due to new Islamic laws and regulations forbidding western musical styles.
